Stupidly Long Walks

Serious walking by two moderately sane people

D61 – Roche to Truro

Distance Travelled: 28.92km. Total Distance: 1,463.32 km  Weather: Warm and sunny.  Accomodation: Donnington Guesthouse

Very similar to yesterday, with us trying to take as many backroads as possible to avoid walking along the A39.

Leaving Roche we followed the path of the old A30, which was meant to take us all the way to Indian Queens, but the new A30, which has just been opened cuts it in half, requiring a stupid detour around a Screech Owl sanctuary.  Nevertheless we carried on, stopping into a petrol station for supplies.

Truro Cathedral

Truro is one of the smallest cities in Cornwall and once we checked in, Andrew had to go 25,000m downhill to get the stamp and do a load of washing.  Ok, perhaps it wasn’t quite that much, but it seemed like it.  There are also a lot of seagulls, given that we’re just 6km from the coast to the south and 15km to the NW.

Tomorrow we get to Helston, within a stone’s throw from Penzance.  Three days to go..

Getting a stamp after a long days walk must be a pain.
Just looking at my 2009 AA map book I’m wondering where the new A30 starts & ends. Looks like an update is needed!
Hope you get time to take in the views at Marazion if you pass that way.
